#HerPurposeIsHere – Mariana Mohammad

Mariana Mohammad is a beast on two wheels.
The 41-year-old road cyclist easily puts men to shame on the tarmac – just ask
around.

Mariana, a mother of two, was introduced to
her first bike at 18 by a friend of hers who forced her to learn how to cycle. There
was a lot of cursing in the beginning as she struggled to cycle and do a race
that her friend made her sign up for.

However, she soon became very good at it and is now eternally grateful to this friend. Her first cycling race – in Kota Kinabalu – was in 1997 on a steel bike and she finished on the podium to her surprise. This was when she realised she could go further.

And further she went indeed. Mariana has
been crowned national cycling champion and even went for the UCI Road World
Championship in Geelong, Australia in 2010.

Besides cycling, Mariana competes in
triathlons and duathlons as well.

It was also at the age of 18 when Mariana
learnt how to swim and tried a triathlon. Her first triathlon was the Sabah
Sprint Triathlon in 1998 where she nearly drowned but thankfully managed to
finish it safely. Her most memorable triathlon was when she completed her first
Olympic Distance triathlon soon after this tough sprint race.

Her next big race is representing Malaysia
in the duathlon at the SEA Games! “This could be my final chance competing in a
high level competition,” she said. And Mariana will be wearing PURPOSE to
compete of course.

“How did I come across PURPOSE? I do a lot
of duathlons and I was looking for a one-piece suit to wear. When I saw someone
wearing the PURPOSE trisuit I fell in love with it and knew I had to get one.
That was how it all began! I really like the look and feel of the material of
PURPOSE products,” she added.
