It is never too late to pick up a sport.
Nursya Jusoh only started running at the age of 36, but has since accumulated
an impressive record of accolades in the past few years. The 42-year-old mother
of three had minimal sports background and only picked up running because she
wanted to lose weight (she was 70kg then).
With encouragement from her husband to lead
a healthy lifestyle, Nursya lost 14kg and signed up for her first running race
in December 2013. To her surprise she finished in the top three and that
ignited a bigger flame in her, pushing her to compete more.
Her first exposure to triathlons was at the
Ironman 70.3 Putrajaya 2014 when she went with her running team as a spectator.
She got so inspired and returned home with a desire to learn how to cycle and
The next year she did her first triathlon
(Olympic distance) and was one of the last to get out of the water, but she
finished with a big smile still. In just a few years – and with lots of
determination – Nursya has made a name for herself in the triathlon scene with
several podium finishes.
She placed second in her age group at
Challenge Iskandar Puteri 2017 and Putrajaya TriFactor International Triathlon,
as well as third in her age group at the 113 OD Melaka. She has also completed
the Ironman Malaysia 140.6 three times and is aiming to go under 13 hours this
“I hope I can inspire many women out there
to start living a healthy lifestyle, regardless of where they are in life. It’s
better late than never and we all have to start somewhere,” she said.
Proud to be a PURPOSE ambassador, Nursya’s
favourite PURPOSE product is the full-length trisuit. “I feel so honoured to be
able to represent a brand that is inclusive. With a full-length trisuit complete
with a sports hijab, more Muslim women can take part in triathlons and I can
influence them to be more active and confident.
“When I wear a trisuit or cycling jersey
from PURPOSE, people are often asking me about it; asking about the material,
the colours, and I am just so happy that PURPOSE is the first brand to create a
trisuit for Muslimahs!”
