Catch up with Purpose Triathlete Michelle on her 2024 Game Plan

A triathlon is undoubtedly one of the biggest endurance sport challenges. They demand a unique blend of physical strength, mental resilience, and an unwavering love for the sport. In the bustling city of Jakarta, Purpose triathlete, Michelle Surjaputra, is a testament to dedication and triumph in this space. As Purpose renews our commitment to Michelle as a sponsored elite triathlete in 2024, we caught up with her to reflect on her 2023 race season, and find out her ambitions for the coming year.

Navigating the 2023 Triathlon Season

Michelle's 2023 season was a rollercoaster of emotions, marked by the highs and lows of participating in over 15 races. She acknowledges the positive impact on her swim performance and while her biking and running have shown progress, Michelle openly recognizes the need to prioritize her running in the upcoming season.

Among the array of races, one race stands out in Michelle's memory—the Da Nang 70.3 Ironman. With determination, she secured the 4th position in her age group and an impressive 10th place overall. This achievement was particularly special as Michelle surpassed personal barriers, shaving an astonishing 30 minutes off her previous best time.

Michelle's 2023 journey also included a delightful surprise – qualification for the national games in Indonesia. Competing with elites added an extraordinary layer to her triathlon experience, emphasizing the unpredictable joys the sport brings.

In a world where intense training regimens often dominate an athlete's life, Michelle took a slightly different approach in 2023. While acknowledging the importance of goals and improvements, she emphasized her focus on making sure she was enjoying the journey and the races.

Looking ahead to the 2024 race season

Each season and every race brings valuable lessons for personal growth. In Michelle's case, the year 2023 highlighted the need to focus on her running and she strives to incorporate running into her routine at least four times a week in 2024.

Michelle aims to participate in more 70.3 races and concentrate on the national games in October, aspiring to secure a podium position despite the expected tough competition.

Behind every athlete's success is reliable gear, and Michelle attributes a significant part of her achievements to Purpose. She said, “Purpose provides me with comfort while I’m racing, eliminating concerns about blisters or chafing. It’s the perfect fit and with a stylish design Purpose is an essential component of each race”.

Michell's advice to Newbie Triathletes

Triathlon isn't merely a sport for Michelle; it's a way of life, a journey of self-discovery, and a celebration of the human spirit. As she embarks on the 2024 season, Michelle shares a heartfelt message for her fans and followers. Expressing her love for triathlon and the joy derived from training and racing, Michelle looks forward to having more fun in 2024, eagerly anticipating competitions in Bangsean and another 70.3 Ironman distance races.
