Sue Kay: A Triathlete's Journey to Purpose Creative Director

Meet Sue Kay, the newly appointed Creative Director of Purpose Performance Wear. Born and raised in Sarawak, Malaysia, we interview Sue to find out more about her inspiring journey from a local athlete to a well sought after coach, to ambassador for Purpose, and now the Creative Director at Purpose.

How her Triathlon Journey Started

Sue's foray into multisports began nine years ago, starting as a Duathlete and later transitioning to Triathlon. Her confidence and self-belief grew alongside her proficiency in long-distance open water swims, marking a significant transformation in her life.

Sue boasts an impressive resume, having conquered six 70.3 Half Ironman races and various Olympic Distance Local Races. Her crowning achievement came in 2019 when she qualified for the 70.3 World Championships.

Expanding her horizons, Sue ventured into trail running, clinching the First Place in the recent UTMB Doi Inthanon 10km race. Her sights are now set on the UTMB Mauritius, where she plans to tackle the challenging 55 km distance.

Overcoming Challenges in the world of Triathlon

Sue's dedication to staying injury-free led her to pursue Triathlon Coaching Courses, obtaining certifications such as Ironman Coaching, Level 1 World Triathlon Coaching, and Level 3 Sports Science. Armed with knowledge, Sue has mastered the art of pushing boundaries safely.

Becoming a Purpose Ambassador

Motivated by a desire to champion Purpose's values, Sue Kay applied to become a Purpose Ambassador, aspiring to inspire others to embrace balance in their lives.

Through her role as a Purpose Ambassador, Sue hopes to inspire individuals to find balance and avoid losing themselves entirely in their pursuits. She encourages newcomers to be patient, enjoy the process, and gradually progress from shorter to more challenging races.

Beyond Endurance Sport

Beyond her athletic endeavors, Sue is a certified Yoga Instructor and has aspirations of becoming a certified deep-sea diver. Her interests extend to two furry companions and a fondness for the TV sitcom FRIENDS.

Taking the role of Purpose's Creative Director

In an exciting development, Sue Kay has also recently been appointed as the Creative Director of Purpose Performance Wear. Working closely with Founder and Chief Product Officer, Noor Aziz, Sue is set to play a pivotal role in developing the visual design of Purpose's products.

Sue's innovative approach to design and her passion for endurance sports align perfectly with the Purpose brand ethos. Having previously served as the lead designer for Purpose in its early years, Sue brings invaluable experience to her new role. Her mission, alongside Noor Aziz, is to cater to the demand for a wider range of technical apparel, achieving the right balance of high performance, style, and functionality, particularly for hot and humid markets.

As Purpose continues its global expansion, Sue Kay's appointment signals a strategic move for the brand. With her return and the recent signings of professional triathletes, Purpose is poised to solidify its position as a force to be reckoned with in the world of endurance sports.
